Mountain chain in Papua New Guinea
The Owen Stanley Range occupies the SE “tail” of the island of Papua New Guinea.
It was observed in 1849 by Captain Owen Stanley.
Climbing rapidly from the coastal plain to a height of 9,000 feet, and extends for 200 miles.
It differs in width from 25 to 70 miles.
its highest point is Mount Victoria 13,240 feet.
