The famous Thinker is the most famous work of Auguste Rodin (1840-1917), and one of the great sculptures of all time, is one of the great sculptures of the modern world. The sculpture is naked, as Rodin He wanted a heroic figure in the style of Michelangelo to represent thinking much like poetry.
Rodin made a first model of the plaster sculpture in 1880. The first large-scale sculpture was completed in 1902, though it was not presented to the public until 1904.
There are more than twenty versions of the sculpture in museums around the world. Some are enlarged versions of the original; other, of different proportions. The Thinker is cast in bronze and was completed in 1880.
