Things have changed since Forbes’ list of The World’s Billionaires was released in 2014. This 2015, there have been a few shakeups in the top 10 richest people in the Philippines, and some changes in net worth. Interestingly, many of the country’s wealthiest people are self-made (including the richest man in the Philippines, Henry Sy), so if you’re determined enough and have the right business savvy, you might just find yourself on this list in the future:

Henry Sy of SM Investments Corporation consolidates his status as the richest person in the Philippines for the seventh year in a row, with his net worth increasing by ten digits due to the growth of SM Investments Corp, the largest Philippine retailer. Sy is also now the 73rd richest person in the world. John Gokongwei climbs to second place in the Philippines on the back of the strong revenue growth of JG Summit. The construction boom has propelled David Consunji of DMCI Holdings to #7, who is more than $1 billion richer now than he was when Forbes calculated his wealth in 2013.

Lucio Tan’s net worth took a hit over worries about the cigarette market. Jaime Zobel de Ayala, who ranked #9 in 2014 with a net worth of $3.4 billion, is a surprise exclusion from the list, but that’s due to no available data for his net worth for 2015 yet.

In 2014, the Philippines’ 50 richest were worth $74 billion, up 12% from 2013. Depending on the market, there will still be changes to this top 10 throughout 2015, so stay tuned for updates from iMoney.
