The final of both the Men’s and the Women’s NCAA Basketball Championships took place this weekend in both Texas and Tennessee, respectively. In the men’s final, which took place in the AT&T Stadium outside of Dallas, Texas (which is where the Dallas Cowboys play), the seventh seeded University of Connecticut faced the freshman-sensation of the University of Kentucky. On the women’s side, the University of Notre Dame also faced the University of Connecticut in the Bridgestone Arena in Nashville, Tennessee. And for both of the games, the University of Connecticut dominated.
In the men’s game, many people believed that Kentucky’s five freshman starters were going to dominate the game. And since Kentucky won the tournament in 2012, they have been in this situation before. However with Shabazz Napier leading UConn, UConn reclaimed the title after last winning it in 2011 with a 60-54 win. In Nashville, both Norte Dame and UConn came into the final game undefeated for the entire season, which is very uncommon. However, once again the Huskies dominated and controlled the game and crushed Notre dame in a 79-58 victory. It has been 10 years since UConn has won both the men’s and the women’s championships and it has been a long time since any other school has done that same feat. These wins puts the University of Connecticut on top of the college basketball world for the 2013-2014 season.
