The Writer & Fan Relationship

Posted on at

I want every fan to love my book, wish the book were longer, and feel excited to read my next book.

I love the intimacy I feel between a fan and me (the author). When I write a book, I inlay a part of my soul into that book. A soulless book is just that - a soulless book, and it will never be anything more. A fan then takes my words with them when they are alone, in a group, or at home. After I publish a book and a fan purchases my book, a type of intimate bond forms that I have grown addicted to feeling.

When writing a book all authors must first figure out the intended audience. For a publishing writer, fans equal success or failure. I take into account what my fans enjoy reading while writing each book.

I want every fan to love my book, wish the book were longer, and feel excited to read my next book.

Entertaining a fan is like a drug. You sit alone inside a room, typing, guessing what people will enjoy, making yourself feel good. People then enjoy your writing so you want to feel that feeling again. Once you feel the success of a published book, you will never stop “chasing the dragon”. Each word, each sentence, my drug takes shape. My writing (my drug) may pacify my soul, or it may explode in my face and cause pain. Regardless of the outcome, I’ll keep coming back for more, and I’ll constantly chase the amazing internal feeling of publishing a book.
