t was many years ago
When I studied in university.
I had a small, lovely friend then,
The young brother of a classmate.
He sketched for me, one day,
On a piece of yellow paper.
It was a simple drawing,
Drawn by a young hand,
Showing a child’s love,
A flower on the edge.
Time went forward.
People moved away.
I kept the drawing with me,
Saved my spiritual treasure—
An old, yellow piece of paper.
I hoped, one day, to meet him again.
Through Facebook, I found
My young friend, all these years later,
A doctor, now, with his own family,
In far-away London.
And he remembered me,
Sent a warm greeting.
In return, I sent him
The precious sketch.
He said, “Love you, Sister.”
I said, “Me too, Brother.”
For this, I am grateful to the Internet.
I salute science, and connections with others,
Thank those who love each other,
Thank Allah for creating understanding.
