What’s the difference between a blog and a website? This is one of the common questions among individuals especially those who are just starting their online activities. People ask this question oftentimes so let us have first a clear understanding of a blog and how it differs from a website.
Technically speaking, a blog is a kind of website. Let’s take a look at this definition from wpbeginner.com.
“A blog is a type of website where the content is presented in reverse chronological order (newer content appear first). Blog contents are often referred to as entries or “blog posts”
We can find websites that have no blog contents but with static posts that are not updated frequently. There can be some interactive websites like Canva, where you visit the site and create designs. Some website contains movies but they don’t have blog posts. Others may have some contents like a library which we can visit to make some research. There are websites that share photos. An example of that is Pixabay.
In other words, a website can exist without a blog but a blog cannot exist without a website. When you say you own a blog, it would definitely mean you own a website.

With the success noted in the blogging activities, businesses companies started to explore the blogging world and incorporate the use of a blog in their business. This is the reason why sponsored posts have started to flourish the online platform.
If done properly, blogging can be a reliable source of income. There are individuals who are earning a great amount. This is one of the reasons why people from all over the world started to engage in this activity.
WHY START YOUR OWN BLOG?
While it is true that we can earn from blogging without setting up our own blog, many individuals still aim to have their own blog. One common reason is the sense of ownership. We can create and develop our own brand or name. We can apply our own strategies and set our own goals. Setting up our own blog is a viable business endeavor which if given the proper technique can be very profitable. We have to invest time, effort and some amount before we could get benefits from it.
Setting up our own blog can be very complicated especially if we don’t have enough knowledge of technical aspects. This is the reason why many would opt to write for 3rd party sites. There are also individuals who have the technical skills but don’t have enough writing skills.
It would be a good option if you have a friend whom you could partner with. You could have the writing skill and your friend could focus on the technical aspect.
Or you could be like me who tries to learn everything for the sake of adventure.

Domain name is a unique series of characters that represent our site on the internet. The domain name is unique which comprised of Second Level Domain (SLD) and the Top Level Domain (TLD). These two levels are joined together by a single point or called dot.

A domain name is an identification string that defines a realm of administrative autonomy, authority or control within the Internet. Domain names are formed by the rules and procedures of the Domain Name System (DNS). Any name registered in the DNS is a domain name.

In simple term, a domain name is the name of our site once it goes live online.
When we start our own blog, it is imperative that we choose a good name for our site. There are several websites offering domain registration such as Namecheap, GoDaddy, Domain.com, Bluehost, and many others.
HOSTING

Apart from having a name, it is also important to note that we also need hosting for our blog. Having a domain name is not enough. You need a place where your domain should be placed. A space in the web, a server where all your contents will be kept for safety.
Simply put, a domain is comparable to our address and the hosting is our house.
CONTENT MANAGEMENT SYSTEM

Now, that you already have a domain and hosting for your blog, another equally important thing that you should obtain is the Content Management System or CMS. It is a software that allows you to create, manage and show your content on the web.
