Time to tell you about second year / beginning of third year...

Ok, so second year, for me, was probably the best year of uni so far (well second semester anyway).

First semester we had to make a drama, shoot it in 1 day and edit over two or three weeks. I decided to go for it and make a film that incorporates some Shakespeare in. I chose Sonnet number 23 (i have no idea why apart from i could set it inside a theatre).

The challenge with that was to cast the right actors and to find a theatre, for free. I searched everywhere in the midlands for a decent looking theatre and ended up getting the Stoke Repertory Theatre for free and its literally around the corner from uni. Then the challenge of casting began. No-one turned up for auditions apart from my actress i ended up giving the part to, then a video audition was sent to me and I gave them the part of the male character in the film.

Shoot went well on the day, came back to edit and immediately didn't like the film, even though I tried my best to make it look decent in the edit, i still feel that it was my weakest film to date (personally).

Second semester had to be the best 5 months of uni as we had to make a non-fiction (could be a documentary if we wanted it to be or something that was real, not scripted). I thought to myself, why not choose a subject that I am passionate about... motorsport... and combine that with filmmaking? That's just what I did.

I think I must have contacted every team and driver in the British Touring Car Championship before I finally got a response from Mike Jordan (Team Owner of Pirtek Racing and father to Touring Car Driver Andrew Jordan). Great!! I have a team and a driver to focus on. Now the challenge was to come up with some sort of structure to the film and still promote the team at the same time. After a couple of months of planning I came up with a 3 act structure - the first part was the team preparing the car, building specific parts and also driver preparation, the second part was the team testing the car at different race tracks in the UK and attending the BTCC Media Day and then to finish the film it was a visual montage of Andrew Jordan racing around the race tracks and then winning the championship at the end of the year.

After the film was made, I sent it to as many people as was humanly possible, this then gave me the opportunity of some work with BAM Motorsport to create and edit a short film with World Touring Car Champion 2012 Rob Huff to show his new partnership with Newmarket Racecourse. This then led to further work with BAM at the BTCC finale weekend in October of this year making a film with newly crowned Renault Clio UK Cup Champion 2013 Josh Files. This hopefully will lead to more work in this industry (motorsport).

My next film (third year semester 1) will be a short promotional film for Nic Hamilton (Lewis Hamilton's brother) and also another version which will incorporate some sort of narrative.
