Titanic is an American drama film written, produced and directed by James Cameron, released in 1997 and emerged in 3D in 2012 for the centenary of the sinking.
It tells the story of two passengers on the Titanic. One, Rose, is a first-class passenger who attempts suicide to free themselves from the constraints imposed by his entourage, and the second, Jack, is a board at the last minute third class vagabond to return to the United States . They meet by chance while attempting suicide Rose and live a love story soon disturbed by the sinking of the ship.
Part of the film, faithful recreation of the sinking, was developed with the help of two historians, Don Lynch and Ken Marschall. The shoot required the construction of a model of quasi-sized cruise ship expeditions to the wreck and many special effects, including digital. The film caused a great deal of interest to the real Titanic resulted in the publication or republication of numerous books on the subject.
The film is one of the most successful in film history and tied the record of eleven Oscars in 1998, including best picture and best director. In France, the film has accumulated a total of nearly 22 million viewers with the times (20.7 million visitors during its first release in January 1998), placing the film leads the French box office of all time. Worldwide, it remains the second highest-grossing box office worldwide (by revenue), after Avatar also directed by James Cameron.
The 3D version of Titanic was released in theaters April 4, 2012 to commemorate the sinking of the Titanic on the occasion of its centenary.
