Today is Akshaya Tritiya, also known as Akha Teej.  It is the auspicious birthday of Lord Parasurama who is the sixth incarnation of Lord Vishnu. So, it is a holy day for Hindus. It is said that on this day Veda Vyas and Lord Ganesha began to write the Mahabharata.  It is also a holy day for Jains who celebrate this day to commemorate Tirthankara Rishabha 's ending of one-year fast by consuming sugarcane juice poured into his cupped hands.
