Today is May Day. May Day is the celebration as International Workers' Day of  labour and the working classes of the world. It is promoted by international labour movement and is observed each year on May 1 throughout the world. Many people do not know that May Day has its origins in America. There was a time when workers in different parts of the world had to work 11 hours or more each day in unsafe conditions. In the late 1800s, workers started their agitation for the right to work no more than eight hours a day without a cut in pay. They chose May 1 as a time to protest in favour of a shorter workday. So, the day is still remembered and observed as an auspicious day by the workers every year in many countries and it is marked as a day to honour workers’ rights. Long live May Day.
