15^th August each year has a special significance to all Indians because the country became an independent nation on August 15, 1947 from the British rule. The day is observed throughout India with flag-hoisting ceremonies, parades and cultural events.  On this great day, the nation pays homage to the leaders and those brave sons of India who fought for India's freedom against the British.
