Our reaction to the Tokyo Tower is a mixed bag. Yes, it’s a shameless copy of the Eiffel Tower, and doesn’t come close to matching the original’s fame or grandeur, but the Tokyo Tower is still an impressive sight. Maybe it’s the bold orange color which contrasts so strikingly against the normal glass and gray of the city’s skyscrapers, or just the weirdness of seeing the Eiffel Tower in Japan, but we consider the Tokyo Tower one of Tokyo’s coolest structures.
However, visiting its observation deck isn’t all that great of an experience. You can ascend to 250 meters (820 feet), which is certainly enough to provide an impressive view, but it’s usually crowded and more than a little annoying. And when you’re inside the Tokyo Tower looking out, you’ve effectively removed the best-looking building from sight.
