The Supreme Court has upheld the anticipatory bail order for BNP standing committee member Toriqul Islam in four cases of sabotage.

Three other BNP leaders - BNP chairperson’s adviser Abdul Awal Mintoo, BNP standing committee member MK Anwar and joint secretary general Amanullah Aman have been denied anticipatory bail in 1, 9 and 42 cases respectively.

A four-member bench headed by Chief Justice Surendra Kumar Sinha passed the order on Monday.

Advocate Jaynul Abedin said HC had granted anticipatory bail for Toriqul Islam in four cases. The HC order has been upheld as Appellate Division gave no order for these four cases.

The apex court denied anticipatory bail for MK Anwar in nine cases, Mintoo in one case and Aman in 42 cases.

On 9 July, a HC bench comprised of Justice Mohammad Ziaul Karim and Mohammad Zakir Hossain, granted anticipatory bail for the 4 BNP leaders in 56 cases.
