Living with someone is almost fully shot now with only 1 day left to go. I have been editing the sequences as shot so the film will be up in the next couple of weeks. Today I shot in a local cinema called the majestic in a small town called Kings Lynn. I shot in the projection room, which had not been changed much in its 85 years of being open.
They are actually celebrating there 85th birthday in the coming weeks by holding and old-fashioned black tie event where they will be showing old adverts that have been stored over the years. They will be finishing the night of with a screening of Casablanca.
They actually informed me that they had to fight to keep their 35mm projection instead of completely transferring to digital. I remember a few years ago discussing if digital would take over and I remember thinking that eventually possibly but it seems that time has come far sooner than I thought
There are still directors who shoot on film and prefer this method, I feel like if they choose to shoot this method maybe that would be how they want there film to be screened? For me 35mm is not an option due to cost, but I do hate the though of never getting to experience it.
Anyway I digress! Living with Someone is my latest short. It is a documentary about a girl named Alice who has been living with her imaginary boyfriend for the past year now. The film was shot on a budget of pretty much £0 however that is not counting fuel cost. It was also filmed with a crew of no more than 2two people at any one time. The whole film has been shot using natural light to the location, this does include built in lighting and any lamps that there may be in the location.
The final shoot is the very end of the film and will be done soon. I am really excited to get all of this in to the edit and get down to it.
Just a quick mention to a program I have used on this. It’s called Neat Video and is a noise removal program. You can get it for most programs, I edit all my stuff in Adobe Premier Pro CS6 but you can get it for FCP for people that still use this but not sure about Avid. It’s a great little bit of software and you can get a demo version to try out first if you like.
I am using it on 4K footage so it can take some time, I suggest it’s one of the last processes you do to the film. Check out some of the results below. Dont know if you can see at this resolution.
Stay tuned to see the premier of Living with Someone
