As a White American I have my problems with police. I still get nervous when I see a cop. I know that some of this has to do with my pot smoking days. The rest is from knowing that a crooked officer could mess with my life any way he or she wants to just because they have the power to do so.
Now take that feeling as a white person and multiply it a million times. That must be what it is like to be African American in this country, especially a Black male. Racial profiling is out of control not only amongst the cops but in a lot of white people in general. It is institutionalized racism and it must stop.
The other day my neighbors house was broken into. When I told my mom about it she said maybe it was the black people down the street. She said she did not like the look of them. This made me very angry and I told her off and hung up the phone. I have not spoken to her since. I hope this will send a message to her that, that type of thinking is wrong and will not be tolerated. My mom is not necessarily racists but she comes from a generation that has a lot of stereotypes for minorities. It makes me sad and angry that people think that way.
