Turkey’s Activism Around the Globe – Picture Tells the Story

Posted on at

Turkey’s Prime Minister Recep Erdogan flies into one of most dangerous global capitals, Mogadishu Somalia. Turkey is taking a leading role in responding to humanitarian crisis, and now perhaps will also seek to help resolve longstanding conflict. It is particularly noteworthy that PM Erdogan (who leads Turkey’s Islamic oriented political party) has chosen this time to fly into Mogadishu after the Al-Shabaab made an assault upon this Somali capital only a few days earlier. Undoubtedly Erdogan wants to draw a very clear distinction between the two types of political Islam now most visible – Islam expressed through the ballot box versus that promoted by violence. Challenge to Turkey by crackdown and violence in neighbor Syria continues. Not clear that its influence in Damascus will muzzle Assad government. However, Turkey’s ambition to re-establish global influence remains undaunted. Turkey’s flag with its Prime Minister in famine stricken and most dangerous areas of globe says that he will not avoid the gamble in pursuit of Turkey’s new image globally.
