Tutorial – How to host an HTML page on Google Drive

NOTE:  Google Drive is a Cloud Storage and Synchronization solution managed by Google.  Through the Google Drive service, users can store files as well as share and edit documents solo or with collaborators.

 

To complete this tutorial, you will need to register for a Google Drive account, which is free and quick.

Below, you will find a step-by-step guide to hosting your HTML web page on Google’s servers using Google Drive..

 

1)  Using your favorite HTML / Text editor, create your HTML page and save it as an HTML file.

 

2)  Upload your HTML file at www.drive.google.com.

 

3)  Select your newly-uploaded HTML file and click “Share” in the top right of the page.

 

4)  In the window that opens, click “Advanced” in the bottom-right corner.  Then click “Change”.

 

5)  Choose “On – Public on the web” and click “Save

 

6)  Take note of the Document ID located within the URL of the share link.  It’s the string of Upper and Lower case letters and numbers between the slashes.

 

7)  The URL for your new HTML page is “http://www.googledrive.com/host/{DOCUMENT ID}

 

 

 

 

If all went well, when users navigate to this new URL, they will be greeted with your HTML page.
