Tropical Storm Chan-hom which was feared to be the powerful typhoon to hit China in decades by Chinese government meteorologists slammed into the Chinese island city of Zhoushan on Saturday afternoon. Fortunately due to change in its course, it lost much of its strength. But it brought heavy rain and strong winds that prompted hundreds of thousands of people to evacuate their homes. No casualties were immediately reported from the storm.
