The U.S. Government is assisting the United Nations team in its rapid assessment of the recent oil spill in the Sundarbans. With USAID support, American experts from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), the U.S. Coast Guard and the University of California-Davis have traveled to Bangladesh to assist in gauging the extent of the spill. The team has also worked with the Bangladesh Forest Department to improve temporary storage of oiled waste while identifying options for permanent disposal.
