Great news for people with wheelchairs that need to get around
While catching cabs are relatively easy for the fully mobile, people that are wheelchair-bound have it harder. There’s not exactly a lot of options for them if they need to commute, since Manila isn’t particularly PWD friendly. Well, Uber’s making commuting for PWDs a little easier, and has partnered up with Wheelmobile, an NGO that aims to raise awareness of the mobility, dignity and equality for people with disabilities (PWD).
People who are wheelchair-bound can now access rides with PWD ramps within the Uber app, though the rates aren’t cheap – you’re looking at P450 for the first hour (or a fraction thereof) and P7.50 per minute after that. The offer is limited though, and will run for November 3 to 7, between 6 am to 10 pm.
We call on both taxi and bus operators to try and emulate what Uber is trying to do. We hope that this shows just how awesome (and useful) Uber is to the general public.
