Mazar-e Sharif, November 2014. The third Unas Mushtarak (women together) Police and Prosecutor Cooperation training took place between 8 and 20 November in Mazar-e-Sharif. 24 female prosecutors, lawyers and Criminal Investigation Department officers participated in the course which was composed of lessons from the Criminal Procedure Code, the Penal Code, case studies as well as a lecture on gender and human rights. The course was very interactive and since most of the participants were attending such a course for the first time, the participants were enthusiastic to contribute.

Mirza Ali Shah, the Head of Prosecution Office of Balkh Province, attended the closing ceremony of the course. He was full of praises for the course: “In my line of work as a prosecutor I find this unique course very valuable as it improves the cooperation between police and prosecutors. It also enhances the professional expertise of women: now, for example, they know how to handle more professionally domestic violence cases.”

Unas Mustarak is a joint project of EUPOL and GIZ (Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit), which is aimed at training female police officers, prosecutors and lawyers on cooperation and gender and human rights issues in Herat, Mazar-e-Sharif and Kabul.
