Unauthorised use of DB identity

Posted on at

The joint commissioner of the detective branch (DB) of police, made alarming allegations at a press conference held on Monday. He said, not only do criminals use DB identity to commit crimes, but so do various other agencies of the government to make arrests. When a senior police official makes such an allegation at a press conference, it must be taken seriously. This smacks of anarchy.
Abduction and forced disappearances have been taking place all over the country. The families of the abducted or missing persons say that the victims had been picked up by persons of the law enforcement agencies. Sometimes they are handed over to the law, but not always. Criminals rings are then blamed. It now seems as if several "agencies" of the government are operating in this manner.
The DB joint commissioner may not have spelt out exactly which agencies are doing this, but he himself knows very well. The members of these agencies are arresting people in the name of DB and handing them over to the law. No matter which agency or force is working to uphold law and order, they have to do so in keeping with the law and the regulations. When making an arrest, they have to clearly state which force they are from and why they are arresting the persons. And then any law enforcement agency has to hand over the arrested person to the law.
Clearly there are irregularities and unlawful practices in place there. Such arrests are being made without giving the correct identity of the agency and also creating a sense of panic by blindfolding the persons. It is not possible to tell whether criminals are carrying out the abduction or the law enforcers.
We hope that after this revelation by the DB joint commissioner, all concerned will be more cautious in this regard.
