An article from Strand magazine (December,1895) reprinted in “Traces of the Elder Faiths of Ireland” by W.G. Dyer, after showing the giant in Dublin, came to England with his queer find and exhibited it in Liverpool and Manchester at sixpence, sixpence a head, attracting scientific men as well as gaping sightseers”.

Interestingly conditions he put it most likely similar to the conditions of the Carboniferous period approximately 358.9 million years ago to 298.9 million years ago. In the early Carboniferous CO2 levels are relatively high at about 1500 ppm (now about 400 ppm). While the level of O2 in the future is likely at first the same as now after it continued to rise to 35% (now 20%). Possible levels of O3 (Ozone) at that time is also high because O3 is made of O2. And high levels of ultraviolet radiation Ozone means almost no one goes to the Earth's surface. And the Carboniferous period is indeed famous for the abundance of giant plants.
