US Federal Government Presses Deportations on American States, by Ambassador mo

“Safe Communities” was purported to be a program to deport only the worst of criminals – illegal immigrants, and with the voluntary cooperation of individual American states and their law enforcement. However, too many individuals were being deported for petty reasons or for no violation at all. Those who did not have legal immigration status and were even victims of crime avoided reporting crimes and cooperation with local police for fear of being entrapped in the “S-Comm” program and deported. Some apparently were arrested, detained and then deported without being convicted of any crime. The US state of Illinois and then New York opted to pull out of S-Comm after having initially joined voluntarily. However, now the US Justice Department is telling the states and their governors (Massachusetts also opted out) that they had no choice. S-Comm would continue to operate in their states employing local law enforcement to collect immigration status, even if such state officials directed otherwise. The “voluntary program” was now to be imposed upon the states regardless of their desire not to be included. Why would the Obama Justice Department press ahead with this program? Perhaps to dispel states like Arizona from employing their own immigration enforcement initiatives (as immigration and protection of US borders is understood as US Federal prerogative under the US system). Politically though the Obama Administration wants to look tough on immigration, especially with elections coming in a little more than a year. If Obama believes that he can appeal to voters who may be anti-immigration, he risks losing his more progressive base. A broad coalition has formed against the S-Comm program, particularly in critical crossover states as California, New Jersey, New York, Florida, Illinois, Ohio Colorado etc. The Center for Constitutional Rights and Change.org have been but a few of the organizations challenging the entire foundation of S.Comm, but now many Democratic Party (as Governor Andrew Cuomo of New York) and other political leaders are joining opposition. The cumulative negative effects of S.Comm may be most directly fell by families split through mass deportations and detentions. Fear in dealing with law enforcement may become the norm for millions whose immigrations status may be questionable or not legal. Organized crime may fill the void. Most notably, the underlying philosophy of S-Comm will be perceived by some as legitimizing their xenophobia and anti-immigrant rhetoric. (Following is link to more detailed information and updates regarding this program - uncoverthetruth.org/featured/pr-ice-announcement-throws-discredited-deportation-program-into-further-disarray-and-confusion/ Ironically though, (for states rights proponents, which many “tea party activists” claim to be), converting S-Comm into a mandatory rather than voluntary program and imposing it upon states presents an ideological dilemma. It may violate the US Constitution, including the 14th Amendment which is most frequently invoked by states rights and tea party proponents. By Ambassador Muhamed Sacirbey
