US Presidential Election is Reset as Culture War?

Victory by Rick Santorum in 3 states (2-7-2012) places Republican Nomination process back to start. It also brings to forefront the culture/religion issues. Don’t think it is mere coincidence that on day Court in California effectively legalizes “Same-Sex Marriage” (declaring Prop 8 unconstitutional), core Republican religious right came out strong for Rick Santorum. Until this point in campaign, Mitt Romney and Newt Gingrich were able to give Santorum’s “family values” focus intermittent lip service. Now though they may opt to challenge and perhaps characterize Santorum as too extreme on issues ranging from anti-gay to birth-control to tolerance of America’s diversity. Ron Paul, the Republican that stands out as a retro-Libertarian has from outset been most uncomfortable with Santorum. Read: “Does Santorum Plan Spanish Style Inquisition for America?” - diplomaticallyincorrect.org/films/blog_post/god-makes-all-global-citizens-equal-by-ambassador-mo/43975 If Romney and Gingrich do not challenge his ultra-right social values crusade, Santorum could easily project his “nice guy” veneer combined with strong core support from Christian right into the nomination. Of course, incumbent Barrack Obama and his campaign team would not miss the opportunity. With Rick Santorum as Republican nominee, the general election would become a referendum on what are America’s core values and what does it mean to be a good American? Rick Santorum would energize opposition even more so than Barrack Obama animated voters in 2008. The election would no longer be about Obama’s record or even about defeating the incumbent. It would become as much or more about whether Rick Santorum will set the criteria for defining liberty, equality, freedom and yes even God for Americans. Will Rick Santorum redefine history as to what our Libertarian Founding Fathers were defending and will he delineate who belongs as an American?
