This race includes different types of boats such as Odi, Vallam, Iruttukuthy Vallam, Churulan Vallam, Kochu Vallam, Vadakkanody Vallam and Veppu Vallam. It is originated on New Year’s Day since 300BC. The popular Vallam Kali event that is Nehru Trophy Boat Race held in the Punnamada Lake close to Alappauzha, Karala.
