Visual Music

A video collection by "Ocusonic". He makes visual music and he is exploring a disparate collection of methods and techniques for he's creation. Underpinning all of these disciplines is Ocusonics, the real-time generation of synchronous audio and visual material.

Chasing Waves Installation

The installation utilizes recordings made in the Experimental TV Studio New York.

Using 70's technology, simple tones, buzzes and glitches were made visual via voltage controlled video synthesis. This technique directly converts the frequencies of the audio signal into a visual form by manipulating the scan line rate of an analog television signal.

These recordings are then made three dimensional by projecting them onto 10 surfaces of 4 rectilinear forms using one projector. When a number of these recordings are played simultaneously in a randomly chosen order, complete with the audio that generated them, new rhythmic and harmonic, audio visual complexities emerge, creating a constantly changing AV composition in three dimensions.

With approx 30hours of video in 100 different 20 minute clips, set to change once every six minutes, the installation will run for approx 10 hours before any one section repeats itself, albeit in a completely different order and distinct combination chosen randomly by the software.

Seeing Sound

Chasing Waves is an audio visual performance based on recordings made in the Experimental Television Centre, NY. Using the 70's technology of voltage controlled video synthesis, simple tones, buzzes and glitches were made visual and commited to miniDV.

With a proprietary program written in Max/Msp, three to four video files, drawn from 30 hours of recordings made in the Experimental Television Centre, are remixed live into a 30/40 minute performance, with each video displayed on a separate part of the screen. When three to four of these recordings are juxtaposed, complete with audio, new rhythmic and harmonic, audio visual complexities emerge.
