A technology infused scientific expedition to the depths of Masaya Volcano to investigate the worlds most newly formed lava lake. The goal: to create the world's most advanced early warning system for the 800 million people around the world who live in the shadows of volcanic giants. In partnership with General Electric, the government of Nicaragua and powered by a cross disciplinary team of experts, Explorer Sam Cossman, former NASA astronaut Scott Parazynski, Technologist Hugo Nordell, Volcanologist Guillermo Caravantes, film-maker Mathew Irving, and a team of expert riggers descend to level 0 to install a network of 80 sensors. By bringing the first volcano online, the team aims to fundamentally expand our understanding of volcanoes and the ability to predict volcanic hazards to communities living in the danger zone.

Leveraging GE's Predix platform, artificial intelligence, and predictive analytics, the team will be creating a proof of concept for early warning that could ultimately save lives and be implemented globally to create the first world wide volcanic network.
