WATER AND ENERGY CRISIS IN PAKISTAN PART 2                                                                                   Enonomic prosperity is based upon an abundant and cheap supply of energy.any countrys agriculture or industry is dependent on it.pakistan at the moment is facing a sever water and energy crisis.Load shedding has become rampant throughout the country.the  rural areas someyimes have to experience a number of days of load shedding. In cities the unscheduled load shedding for several hours a day is palying havoc with social and ecomic activities of the citizens.Agricultural production is bound to suffer as a result of water and energy shortage.Pakistan mainstay of economy is agriculuture which contributes about 23% of GDP. majority of the farmers are poor and illiterate not having enough money and knowledge to machinery.Rainfall moreover in pakistan is not reliable. As a result an acute water and energy crisis is aggravating the situation.Pakistans industry is also to a larger extent dependent on agriculture. Our largest industry is textile.Unfortunately a large number of textile units in various parts of the country as in faisalabad, the manchester of pakistan, have been shut down.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                          Exports have as a consequence dwindled affecting our balance of payments negatively.Other industries such as leather sports sugar are also suffering.Servicce sector has also been hit severely.Business activities are decelerating. Both domestic as well as industrial consumers are encountering serious problems. The performance of various sectors such as education health and irrigation is worsening.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                    Investment is being discouraged resulting in an increase in inflation and unemployment. It is becoming harder and harder for the poor people to make both ends meet.Already about one fourth of our population is living below the poverty line.Water and energy crisis is simply exacerbating the wretched situation.    Low salaried people like clerks industrial labour force and orderlies have become dejected and frustrated to the extent that they are compelled to protest against the energy crisis and inflation. They have even resorted to violence at times burning tires and going on hunger strikes.Such a feeling of consternation is augmenting day by day.
