Water borne hepatitis is on the increase in India.

Hepatitis viruses A and E that affect the liver are transmitted through contaminated water or food and are rampant in developing countries. India too is a victim of these viruses as the country has the highest number of people in the world without access to safe water. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), an estimated two to five per cent of India’s population is chronically infected with viral hepatitis. It is learnt that a total of 133,625 cases and 397 deaths were recorded due to Hepatitis A and E infections last year. So, the government of India must ensure safe drinking water to the country men.
