Wazir Khan Mosque

The Wazir khan Mosque situated almost in the centre of Lahore city, is like a multifaceted diamond that Pakistan can really be proud of. As scholars, artists and designers, as usual, have recognised their responsibility to expose the glowing splendour of the unit as early as it deserves to be.

" The style of the mosque is Mughal , though its founder was native of Punjab , Shaikh IIm-ud- Ansari, son of Shaikh Abdul Latif, son of Shaikh Hisam-ud-Din. He was a native of Chiniot in the jang district. In his youth he obtained service under Shah Jahan, when he was a prince. By sheer competence and ability he gradually worked his way up and became a close confidant of the price, who included him among this best servants. Hakim IIm-ud-din was given the title of Wazir khan on the occasion of the prince's accession to teh throne in 1627. In the fourteenth yewar of Shah Jahan's reign, he was once again appointed Govenor of Akbarabad, where he could not atay for more than ten months when he fell down from his horse. Under those circumstances he made as list of this belongings and handeed it over to the royal treasury. He died of colic 1640. His contributions in the field of architecture are in the form of various buildings. His constructions included hammans, sarais, bazars, gardens, mosques, hawailies and the mosque under discussion. i.e. Wazir Khan Mosque which would keep his name alive for ages.

 "Near Lahore Wazir khan constructed a new town which came to be known as Wazirabad. He also built a strong brick wall around his native town, Chiniot. Besides this he is said to have raised bazars, shops, mosques, sarais, madrasas, dispensaries, wells etc. mad of baked briks. No other Amir had ever constructed such buildings. He handed over these building to inhabitants of Chiniot and never had the opportunity of visiting his native place.
