WBO poised to strip Floyd of title

The World Boxing Organization (WBO) is poised to strip Floyd Mayweather of the welterweight belt he recently won from Manny Pacquiao.

The WBO has given Mayweather until Friday to decide if he's going to retain the title and relinquish the WBC and WBA belts at junior middleweight.

The WBO rules state that a fighter cannot hold world titles in multiple weight division.

"To remain the WBO champion at 147 [pounds], Mayweatehr must vacate his WBC/WBA titles at 154 [pounds] -- which he hasn't defended since September of 2013," said Miguel Vera's report to Boxing Scene.

Mayweather still owes a $200,000 sanctioning fee from the Pacquiao bout.

An ESPN report said Mayweather stands to earn between $220 million and $230 million from the title bout that generated close to $600 million in revenue.

Once stripped, Timothy Bradley will be adjudged as the full WBO welterweight champion.
