There's one item that's almost universally in every garage: WD-40. It's the all-purpose garage tool that can accomplish so much, but most people use it as lubrication. You can do so much more with it.
Before I start, let me say there are three things you should NOT use WD-40 for:
- Bike chains: Bike-specific lubricants are better because they do not attract dirt and dust like WD-40.
- Locks: WD-40 can wear down the internal mechanisms.
- iPod and iPad Home Buttons: I've seen this elsewhere but this breaks down the plastic and can damage the inside as well.
1. Separate Stuck Glasses
Instead of trying to pull them apart and potentially breaking the glasses, spray a little WD-40. Wait a few seconds then pull them apart. Remember to wash the glasses thoroughly.2. Remove a Stuck Ring
You could use a lot of things to remove a ring but WD-40 is one that'll definitely work. Wash your hands after!
3. Remove Scuff Marks
Spray the marks with a bit of WD-40 then remove with a hard-bristled brush. Your surface won't be harmed and it'll look brand new. Remember, always take precautions to make sure there is proper ventilation, so OPEN A WINDOW!
4. Remove Tea Stains
If you have tea stains on your counter tops, just spray a little on a damp sponge or cloth then wipe it away.
5. Clean Your Toilet
Don't buy a specific product for your toilet. Just a few sprays, a few seconds, and a few strokes with a brush and you're on your way to a clean toilet.
6. Restore License Plates
A few sprays on a license plate will restore it, removing any light rust and prevent further rusting.
7. Prevent Wasps from Building Nests
Nests tend to build in eaves, so a few sprays in those areas will prevent those little buggers from ruining your summer.
8. Remove Strong Glue
If you have strong glue on your fingers/hands, just spray a little WD-40 and rub them together until it isn't sticky anymore. Make sure to thoroughly wash your hands after.
9. Loosen Zippers
Spraying a little WD-40 on a zipper then moving it up and down will help lubricate and get it working properly. If you don't want it on your fabric, spray it on something disposable then apply with a paintbrush.
10. Wooden Tool Handles Splinter Free
Prolong your tools by rubbing a generous amount into the handles.
11. Remove Dried Glue
Spray the area with WD-40, leave it for 30 seconds, then wipe it clean.
12. Degrease your Hands
Spray a bit into your hands, rub them around for a bit, and wash with water and soap.
13. Remove Stickers and the Like
The solvents in WD-40 removes the adhesive on stickers. Just spray the sticker, leave it for a few minutes then use something to scrape it off.
14. Remove Marker and Crayon Marks
15. Untangle Fishing Lines
Spray small knots then use a pin to pull them apart. WD-40 also prolongs the life of the line.
18. Clean and Protect Golf Clubs
Spray the club heads and clean with a damp cloth. This will make them look new and protect them.
19. Remove Paint Rub
You get back from the store and someone hit your car. Fortunately, no scratches or dent, but there's leftover paint. Spray some WD-40, leave it for a few seconds, then rub it off.
