Week 3: CBS Station Promotion & Advertising
Posted on at
Hey all, It's been a nice week. The June gloom of Southern Cal has stretched far into July; so everyday is pretty cloudy with very light showers. Anyways, the work week began on Tuesday... I spent nearly all of my time this week in the editing room, working on some promotional material for HAWAII FIVE-0, and THE DEFENDERS. Under the close eye of one of my mentors, we completed :30, and :15 second TV spots for both shows. I also got familiar with the Avid editing system. One of the more "hollywood-esque" moments of the week, came at the CBS cafe'. Where, as I had lunch, Eric Roberts came walking in for something to eat. I sat with another intern and asked her, "Hey, is that Eric Roberts?" Sure enough it was. I felt so cool to be eating lunch in the same room as Eric Roberts. Apparently he's going back to soap operas; doing "The Young and The Restless." I felt sick, and I looked around and saw that the room was also moving slightly. Then, I heard the rumbling of footsteps running down the hallway. I felt as if I was on a rocking boat on the ocean. 15 seconds later, as I sit in my chair not knowing what to do, I hear a voice down the hallway: "Hey did you feel that babyquake?" There I was, so proud that I had sat through my first California earthquake. The editing rooms are underground at CBS, so as you can imagine, were underneath this monstrous structure. As my Avid mentor, Dan put it: "Next time you feel that you bolt down this hallway and haul ass out that door." Point taken sir. Later on in the week, we held a phone conference with CBS4 our affiliate in my hometown of Miami. I had pitched my bosses the idea of getting the South Florida station on board to join us in our Hawaii Five-0 launch campaign. We exchanged thoughts and ideas, and loved what they had in mind: they are officially on board, and I'm proud that I was an intricate piece in getting my hometown station on board this project. Oh and did I forget to mention...the Miami Heat completed the most impressive roster haul in recent memory? Yeah, that was kind of a big deal this week. Until next time, stay tuned... EO
