West Indies captain Jason Holder chose to bat against Zimbabwe on a Manuka Oval pitch that is expected to slow down as the match progresses. Elton Chigumbura, the Zimbabwe captain, said he would have also batted. Teams batting first have won three out of four matches at this venue in this century.

West Indies made two forced changes, with Darren Bravo out with the hamstring injury he suffered during the match against Pakistan, and Sulieman Benn out with a sore back. Jonathan Carter and Nikita Miller took their respective places. Zimbabwe made one change, with Stuart Matsikenyeri replacing the injured allrounder Solomon Mire - he has an issue with his left hamstring.

Canberra experienced rain on Monday night, and more rain is forecast for the afternoon.
