As per the ancient hindu text, Manu Smirti, a man’s ideal woman/wife is described in these words: Karyeshu Mantri, Karaneshu Dasi, Rupeshu Lakshmi, Dharmeshu Patni, Kshyama Dharitri, Bhojeshu (Snehushu) Mata, Sayeneshu Veshya, Shat Karmanari, Kul Dharmapatni.

Karyeshu mantri means a wife should be able to advise and assist her husband like a minister.
Karaneshu dasi means a wife should be able to serve her husband like a servant.
Rupeshu Lakshmi means a wife should be beautiful and appealing as goddess laxmi.
Dharmeshu patni means a wife should be a husband’s companion in noble deeds.
Kshamaya dhaitri means a wife should be like the earth in tolerance and forgiveness.
Bhojeshu mata means a wife should be able to feed her husband like a mother.
Shayaneshu veshya means a wife should be like a prostitute in bed and be able to please her husband.

And these qualities are what summed up as the qualities a man looked (looks???) in his ideal woman.

But over centuries, have the winds of change, women’s education and empowerment, and huge western impact brought any change on the psyche of Indian men? I don’t think so.

It is said that women are as mysterious and deep as the sea, but when it comes to men, there is nothing even to compare them with. I am trying here, with my limited knowledge about men on what men really want in their women.

1. Appealing appearance

A man would always want his wife/spouse/girlfriend to look appealing and well maintained. No man would like to tag along someone who is not well maintained and shabby in appearance. It is not necessary that one should have chiseled features or a certain color of eyes or skin to look attractive, a neat and well-maintained frame, mildly fragrant body, and an ENCHANTING SMILE is all that it takes to make men go mad about you.

2. Men like meat, bones are for dogs

Some women are so desperate to achieve the size-zero figure that they starve themselves to bad health and bones and this size-zero fad is obviously for non-health reasons, one of them may be to look more appealing and attractive to men. But, do men really find bony girls pretty. I don’t think so. Poets have always described their dream women as fuller and buxom. More than skinny anorexic girls, men like their women to be SLIM AND HEALTHY. A fuller and plumper Scarlett Johannson finds herself amongst the most sexiest women’s list year after year rather than an ill-appearing skinny bony Mary-Kate Olsen. Even Saif Ali Khan has declared that he did not like Kareena Kapoor in Tashan because she was size zero.

3. Non-nagging partners please

According to a recent research, nagging is one of the main causes of conflict in today’s marriage. A constantly nagging woman who is always at her spouse’s neck, shouting and yelling at him, unnerves the man. A woman becomes the least desirable when she is nagging, howling, and yelling.

4. Men are drawn to women, who look and behave like their mothers.

Men look up to their mothers as the perfect woman and role models and often look out for qualities in his partner that are similar to his mother’s. Mother’s characteristics leave an indelible impression and men are often attracted to people with her features and warmth.

5. Superwoman

Most men hate to admit it, but all men like their sweethearts to be superwoman. She should be able to cook for him, love him, take care of his needs, wash his clothes, iron his clothes, wash his dishes, look after his home, respect his family, work in the office, take care of his family, take care of her own family, do grocery shopping, maintain everything at home, do the cleaning, do the washing, look after his pets, and most importantly give birth and love and care his children. In short, every man wants his wife to be a superwoman…..though they don’t know and won’t admit that “superwoman” is the synonym for “WIFE.”

6. Men like to “own” their woman

Most men are possessive towards their wives/girlfriends and they have a general feeling that they “own” their girlfriends/wives, which is not a bad thing. Once a man commits himself to a relationship with his girl, he likes to call her “my girlfriend” and “my wife”…..well, women also call their guys as “my boyfriend” and “my husband”, but the owner feeling is much more pronounced amongst men. So, if you give them the hint that you are ready to get “owned” by him (not easily ownable), he will be happy.

7. Fragrance

Fragrance is always seen as men/women magnets. A mild floral fragrance not only makes the wearer confident and appear fresh, it attracts whom you want to attract. Men like their ladies to smell good, many men like to sniff their women’s hair and if you have a smelly oily scalp, it sure would be a turn-off. Likewise, body fragrance should be mild and pleasant and not OTT and headache-inducing. Men find nice and pleasant smelling ladies attractive.

8. The way to a man’s heart is through his stomach

The proverb “the way to a man’s heart is through his stomach” means one way a woman can get the affections of a man, is by cooking him a good meal. While feminists and highly-evolved creatures and so-called flag-bearers of emancipation of women will disagree, this statement remains a fact and holds water as it had since ages. A woman’s cooking ability is the most desirable of desirable features. Even though, a man would be forced to shut up into silence about this fact, but home-made food cooked by his spouse would make him the happiest. It is said that “proverbs are not necessarily absolute truths, but they are generally correct.” MOST OF THE WELL-FED MEN ARE THE HAPPIEST ONES.

9. Respect his parents

Most of the eligible bachelors (Indian), if asked about what qualities they are looking in their would-be spouses, would blurt out…….”she should be able to take care and respect my parents.” After committing to a relationship, what is the next step a man does, well, take and introduce his girl to his family for their approval. A girl also does not feel the security until she is introduced to the guy’s family. So, family’s approval and nod is important for both the guy and the girl. If a girl is accepted into the man’s family and wins their love and gives them respect and care, the man is bound to be more loving towards his girl.

10. Be a good mother to his children

Last, but not the least, a man is attracted to females who they think would make great mothers. A wild and unaffectionate lady is sure to turn off a guy and make him run for his life. Normally, guys observe how their prospective partners behave around small children and underline in their minds that “yes, she is the one…..she will be a great mother to my kids.”

Well, these above-mentioned pointers are based upon my personal opinion and you are free to add your own points. Actually, even, I would like to know what are the other features in women that men find attractive (actually, I am thinking on ways to convince my husband to let me cut my hair really stylish and I need help).
