"If you will be crowned Miss Earth tonight, what will you do to slow down the effects of global warming?" This was the questioned asked to Miss Earth Phillippines Jamie Herrel during the 2014 Miss earth competition.
"Global warming has been known for being long and overdue issue. That is why if I am crowned tonight, I will use my title to inspire others to help our environment and start with kids; because the kids are the people of tomorrow. And if we teach them, they will also help the community," answered Miss Herrel who was crowned Miss Earth 2014.
There's no need for us to become a beauty queen in order to be concerned with global warming which gradually destroys our mother earth. Even simple persons can contribute to this. But the question is how?
Recycling is on the rise! Recycle glass, paper and metal objects. Instead of opening new bottles of water all the time, rinse each bottle, refill it with tap water and reuse it several times. Take cloth bags (instead of asking for paper or plastic bags) when you go grocery shopping and remind your parents to keep extra cloth bags in the car. This tips are taken from the Modern teacher.
In addition, learn to conserve water and electricity. Turn off water while you brush your teeth. Use glass in brushing your teeth. Entertain yourself in ways that do not use electricity - read a book, play a board game, make a craft, ride your bike or play a sport. Most importantly, turn off the lights, computers and other electrical devices you are not using.
Love environment by keeping it clean and green. Do not litter. Always clean up your picnic area or campsite. Have a vegetable garden or nurture ornamental plants around your house. Believe me, it dont just add beauty on your place but it will save mother earth. In addition, plant more and more trees.
One way to control the amount of trash that finds it way to landfills is to remember the three R's: reduce, reuse and recycle. Learn to segregate your garbage. Protecting mother earth is everybody's concern.
