Answer: 

The principal was a kind person. He was uncomfortable and unhappy as the board had changed its policy regarding the award of the scholarship jacket .He was aware of evil motives for which the policy had been changed. when Marta informed him about her grandfather's response,he signed loudly and looked at her as if thinking . Then he said that he would make an exception in Marta's case and tell the Board the she should get her jacket.
