What if Steve Jobs or Bill Gates were not born yet?

What if we didn't have Windows or Personal Computers or even Cell phones today?

If the things that these two great giants of human ingenuity and vision and drive had not yet been born, what then would we be doing right now?

I think I would probably be watching broadcast television now instead of digital and the telephone booth would still be Superman's dressing room. The point is, there would be a different reality for us. The iphone, ipad and apple computers and Windows operating systems of disk operating systems and personal home computers might not have become a fact of life quite as soon as they have, had just 2 men in our current history not yet been born.

Of course I would imagine that sooner or later most of what we now see as regular office add-ons and personal attire would come about. There are always others who have similar visions and aptitudes but for us, these 2 individuals, one no longer living and the other doing well, both have given the world a transformation from the post industrial age to the digital and the space age.

The world without personal computer, not computers altogether, and cell phones would still exist but it would be a much different world if this was the case and I wonder if anyone else might have done it differently and led the world in another completely different direction?

There are probably computer programs that calculate and use algorithms to determine the many different destinations mankind will arrive at by using existing population figures, economic, agricultural, scientific and environmental, biological and religious and socialogical variations that might tend to cause and effect certain changes that might happen years from now or even centuries from this very moment.

If we were to harness the full potential of modern digital technology we might already be on an interstellar ram jet to Andromeda Galaxy. We might have already put an end to war. We might have ended hunger, bigotry, murder, rape, abuse, hatred and chaos. But then maybe on the other hand, this digital age might spawn a new generation of man who's goals are not unified society but dominance and submission, mind control and a furtherance of what has already been termed as modern day Affluenza.

So they say, with great power comes great responsibility. I can dig that. It sounds good on paper, but if there were a time that the world has seen in days gone by, what would be your favorite century where you think the greatest potential of change for the better might have taken place had such people as Jobs and Gates had been born then?

Looking at the picture on this post do you see a sunset or a sunrise? Do you look more towards what has been before or look ahead towards what the future will hold?
