What is Cellulitis
Cellulitis is another kind of skin infection particular in the subcutaneous tissue and the dermis. It is being characterized by painful plaque having an ill defined border. Aside from being painful, it is also hot, tender and red in appearance.
What are the causes of Cellulitis?
The Cellulitis can infect both children and adults. This is primarily caused by Staphylococcus aureus and the Group A B-Hemolytic Streptococcus bacteria.
However, H. Influenza usually is the caused of the infection with children who are less than two (2) years old. The portion of the skin the involved are neck, periorbital, head and face.
What would be the treatment for Cellulitis?
Here are some of the basic treatments for Cellulitis.
To ease the pain suffering, you must give the patient analgesic and apply warm compress at the affected portion.
To hasten and faster recovery if the infection is location at body extremities, you have to elevate it.
To get rid of the infection which aimed to the staphylococcal and streptococcal bacteria, you have to institute empiric treatment using antibiotics.
To treat children, an Ampicillin must be given because it has strong protection for H. Influenza.
To drastically reduce the incidence of Cellulitis, Hib immunization must be given to children who are below two (2) years old.
To strong treat and prevent Cellulitis for those children who are below four (4) year but are not immunized, the Hib is recommended because it serves as chemoprophylaxis to household members of the patient.
