What Is The Difference Between A Tortoise And A Turtle?

Have you ever wondered what the differences were between turtles and tortoises’? Well I have and I even thought they were just different names for the same animal, well I was wrong!

First off turtles have smooth flat shells while tortoises have more rounded or circular shells. Turtles tend to live in water and swim more, while tortoises are more land driven animals and prefer dry land. They have normal feet while turtles have flippers to help them swim.

Tortoises’ are vegetarians and only eat plants, while turtles enjoy both plant and insects. Turtles are also more adventurous and like to migrate to different areas over time, tortoises prefer to stay in one place. I also read that tortoises live longer than turtles, approximately 50 years more.
