MANILA - Nothing has changed.
Communications Secretary Sonny Coloma on Thursday said Philippine National Police chief Director General Alan Purisima still enjoys the trust and confidence of President Aquino.
The embattled police chief talked with the President on Monday and according to Coloma, nothing has changed as to the President's statement amid allegations on Purisima's unexplained accumulated wealth.
The President earlier said in New York that Purisima is not ostentatious nor greedy.
"Walang pagbabago sa paninidigan ng Pangulo," Coloma said.
During their talk, the President told Purisima to tell the truth especially on the issue of his Statement of Assets, Liabilities, and Net Worth or SALN.
Coloma said that after his talk with the President, Purisima went to the Senate on Tuesday and answered all the questions thrown at him.
He, however, said all public officials are still to be held accountable to the people under existing laws.
Purisima: It's a house, not a mansion
Purisima appeared before a select group of media today to give a statement about his property in San Leonardo, Nueva Ecija.
Purisima demanded that only members of the PNP Press Corps be allowed to enter, and that questions be restricted to the San Leonardo mansion.
The PNP Chief flashed photos of the San Leonardo property, showing the facade of the house, the swimming pool, and what appears to be a function area with several tables.
He said contrary to what his detractors have said, it is not a mansion. The house is 204sqm. The pool is 7.5 meters by 15 meters.
Purisima said the assessed value of the property is P818,260, with a market value of P2,337,900. He said aerial shots taken by ABS-CBN anchor Ted Failon were deceiving.
Purisima did not mention the size of the entire lot upon which the house, pool, and other structures are found.
He maintains that it is a house, not a villa or a mansion. He invited the media to visit the property and see for themselves.
