The sacredness of life has lost its meaning. We always hear of senseless killings and massacres, which have become ordinary occurrences in our time. We see fetuses thrown in garbage cans.

There was a time when taking a person’s life was considered a heinous crime, where the aggrieved family cried to heavens for justice. If we allow this pernicious outlook on the value of life go unchecked, there will come a time when nothing will be sacred anymore.

We will always have reasons or justifications to escape from the responsibility of protecting life. The only way to combat this insidious force is to stress the sacredness or importance of life and how to live by the age-old dictum that “God is the author of life and so only He has the right to take it away.”
