Throughout my process whist making my Web Series (Which I still don’t have a name for yet!! ) I wanted to not only document how I make the series and what I come across along the way, but also to give you guys an understanding and a insight into my life at this time. Kind of a day-to-day documentary of stuff I get up to. I came up with an idea of creating series of short, which will be called ‘LifeEye’ which will show the person behind the series. (Me)
So I thought a great way to share these moments was to shoot them all from my own perspective. From a Point of view angle, which will all be shot on a ‘GoPro Hero 2 camera, with a head mount, as shown below.
Filming this way allows me to still get on with the task at hand, but meanwhile gaining some great footage from a hands free camera documenting my every move. Sorted!!
The first film I undertook was a ‘day in the life’ at my day job as a carpet fitter called ‘Day Job’. I used to do this job before I got into filmmaking about 5 years ago and it was great to fall back on when moving home to earn a bit of money and to help fund this Web Series. Plus I thought it was a nice idea to document two different sides of my working life – carpet fitting/filmmaking. Showing the contrast between both.
Filming ‘Day Job’ was easy enough, strapping a camera to my head and letting the camera pick up what I did throughout my day raised no issues… Although not planning what I was shooting and just filming everything I did meant after reviewing my footage and realised I hadn’t captured everything I needed to form an edit, which meant reshooting on a few jobs to finish the film….
From doing this, I’m now aware I still have to plan the actions I intend to shoot, even if it’s documenting my life. There still has to be structure and a story for the audience to follow and enjoy no matter what the film is showing. Plus planning saves time, which I don’t have a lot of right now! ;)
Following this film is a similar structure and style, showing my day-to-day life writing this Web Series, which I hope to get out by the end of the week!
Doing these shorts not only gets me back into filming and cutting a film again, but will one day give me a chance to look at my life and see where I’ve been and where I’m going as time goes on. Sorted!
