Though both of our President Pranab Mukherjee and Vice-President Hamid Ansari used to visit "Vir Bhumi", the memorial to former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi in previous years to pay their homage to the late leader, this year they were conspicuous by their absence at the memorial on his death anniversary on Thursday. The reason behind is not clear nor any official clarification has been provided by the respective offices but it seems that the BJP government's decision that such functions will be a non- governmental affair might be the reason.
