---"shot his mouth and pistol prematurely" ---Riding out of Texas, Rick Perry looked so big and formidable. So why does he look so reduced in stature now? Then I was reminded of what an ex-girlfriend said: "It's true that everything is bigger in Texas, but that does not mean it stays big outside of Texas." Rick Perry came out throwing verbal punches when he announced his candidacy, but by the time he finished he was the one more bloodied, and that was even without an opponent in sight. Some great competitors have come out of Texas. I played football with a couple of them. The list of singers is perhaps even more uniquely impressive - from Willie Nelson and Barry White to ZZ Top and Nelly. However, none come across as much caricature as its latest political contributions to the national scene. Rick Perry definitely is more in the fake swagger of George W. Bush than the bigger than DC effect of LBJ. Rick Perry seemed loaded for bear when he spoke of "lynching" Fed Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke, but then forgot his lines in the Republican debate. He looked the lesser politician next to his presumed arch nemesis Mitt Romney. Newt Gingrich, looked more the Archie Bunker part, but Rick Perry came across as the "Meathead." It is now the other Texan Ron Paul that is picking up voters and momentum. Frankly Ron does not look much the part, but at least he speaks more of the authentic Texas culture of individualism and minding one's own business. Rick Perry could have followed another Texas icon, of "Charlie Wilson's War" fame. However, looking for a fight he can win, Perry is having trouble sizing up the right opponent for himself and America. Congressman Charlie Wilson with champagne bottle in hand and whacked out with 2 hookers next to him in a hot-tub could see more clearly than Perry - beat the Soviet Union! (Congressman Wilson I have met and admired for his authenticity and tenacity, with or without his cowboy hat). What is the next big crusade for America in Rick Perry's campaign - "get the gays out of the military and put the church into government." With all the 'big' things Rick Perry has in mind for America, one of them is not Big Love. We're all waiting for Rick Perry to make his "Big" move, but with the Iowa caucus only a week away, time is running out. However, the ex-girlfriend's observation about Big in Texas - not so Big outside is a sobering reminder - It just may be that Rick Perry is destined to follow - Big in Texas Dude to Big Out of Texas Dud.
