Will This Man be America’s Next President – Ron Paul? By Ambassador mo

Ron Paul has no scent of scandal about him, and the only woman he has had a passionate affair with is Ayn Rand, (hell, he named his son and current Tea Party favorite after her, the US Senator from Kentucky Rand Paul). Now that Herman Cain has dropped out, maybe Ron Paul can be the next Republican candidate to catch fire with conservative Tea Party base. Ron Paul though is such a pure libertarian high that he even scares most of the Tea Party junkies. The good doctor – yes, he is a medical doctor - is all about the purest form of capitalism and would embrace an America without public health, education or for that matter any form of government involvement in our business or personal lives. He would get rid of the US Federal Reserve and revert to a gold standard for our country. So why has not Ron Paul been more broadly embraced by the Republican/Tea Party base? It’s hypocrisy, theirs not his! Ron Paul is not political but ideological. Much of the Republican/Tea Party base claims to be pure of ideology – something like returning to the Founding Fathers and the roots of America’s birth. However, frankly most have a historical perception that reflects a worship of an image rather than a belief in the reality of American exceptionalism. What does not fit the image, they just ignore in the narrative and reject in their politics. No God in Government, No “Industrial Military Base” & No US in UN? Like Alisa Zinov'yevna Rosenbaum (Ayn Rand’s born name), Ron Paul does not want God in our Government nor Uncle Sam in our bedrooms. He mistrusts the “military industrial base” almost as much as General, then US President, Dwight D. Eisenhower (the military hero of WW II who was wary of the corporate military establishment and who made certain that the horrors of the Holocaust were documented). In fact, Ron Paul would get the US out of Iraq, Afghanistan and the “War on Terror.” Ron Paul would not attack Iran’s nuclear facilities. He would not though stop Israel from doing so either. However, he is not particularly liked by some of Israel’s supporters as he would terminate more or less all foreign aid. I also suspect that he would look to isolate the US from most foreign policy institutions, from the United Nations to UNICEF. He is one of few who objects to targeting of US citizens by any arm of the US Executive (including assassinations), at least not without judicial and Congressional oversight. Ron Paul objects to “water-boarding” as an interrogation technique that violates our Constitution. Most of his opponents in the Presidential base would embrace anything under a rather thin, self-serving and convenient veneer of patriotism. Ron Paul is the Constitutionalist candidate, even if most prefer their on Reader’s Digest abbreviated version. Ron Paul is not my cup of tea, but he has my respect for consistency. He reminds me a bit of another Doctor, Hawkeye Pierce from the old anti-war film and TV series MASH – a person so conservative in his vision of the primacy of American individualism that he might be confused for a liberal. He shares with George Soros a passion to decriminalize drug use. So one might think that with an agenda that would allow big business operate largely free of regulation and who would make certain the dollar was good as gold and who would not tax somewhere below Herman Cain’s “999 Plan,” and who opposes “Obama Care,” (whatever that is), would be embraced by both the uhber-capitalists and all those claiming the political territory of the right? Nope! No “Scarlet Letter” & Thus Unelectable: Almost all of those on the right appear to have that one exception to laissez-faire application in our economics and/or private lives where they want more rather than less government – in our bedroom or doctor’s office or some pet subsidy or some place beyond US borders (or perhaps even within) where they want the US to kick some ass. Some would in fact look for God to be employed in such cause or crusades – perhaps not getting the irony of becoming a reflection of the Iranian Mullah theocracy. I’m not going to vote for Ron Paul, but he is no political whore at a time when almost all politicians are in bed with someone, figuratively and/or literally that they should not be with. I have no doubt that if we tore off his shirt that we would discover no Scarlet Letter on his chest. That may be though also the reason that we will never call him United States President and Commander in Chief Ron Paul.
