Will This Wo-Man be America’s Next President, by Ambassador mo

Congresswoman Michelle Bachmann had initially caught fire with the Tea Party and in the polls for Republican Presidential nomination as she came from relative obscurity to be seen as one of favorites. However, since she has fallen dramatically in relative standing to others who have moved ahead of her even among Tea Party stalwarts. This weekend her entire campaign staff in the key state of New Hampshire apparently walked out. Stalking the Presidency? Congresswoman Bachmann was one of the earlier and more enthusiastic candidates. That may have worked to her benefit initially but now something seems just out of click – and certainly her New Hampshire campaign staff appeared to share this same sense of apprehension believing that she had peaked too early. Sexism? Is Ms. Bachmann the victim of sexism - her cover PHOTO on Newsweek Magazine was not flattering and was accompanied by the pseudonym – “The Queen of Rage”? Undoubtedly gender does come into play, but Ms. Bachmann has also failed to instill broad confidence. Her base has been relatively limited. She speaks of ideas and initiatives. Her record as Congresswoman and manner though do not establish a record of success in developing such initiatives into adopted legislation. Her enthusiasm at times appears ahead of either rational consideration or ability to deliver - bluntly she appears as the too eager beaver, toothy as well as enthusiastic, industrious and attractive - in a stalker kind of way. Inconsistency Between Ideology & Business: There are also some inconsistencies between her ideology and business/personal life. She and her husband own a psychology practice that in significant part depends on government moneys, at the same time when Michelle Bachmann the candidate riles against government spending. Bachmann’s View of America Rather Limited in Terms of Inclusiveness: Ms. Bachmann’s views on matters like homosexuality, Muslims, Mormons etc may make many of us uncomfortable with how broadly welcoming America would be under her Presidency. She also has strong anti-immigration views and is definitively anti-choice. These positions though have not hurt her but probably contributed to her rise among the Christian right core. Born in Iowa and now a Congresswoman from neighboring Minnesota, she is expected to do well among that state’s hard core of religious conservatives in the first caucus at the beginning of 2012. However, whether social conservatives themselves are not inclined to support a woman for the top job or it is some other limitation, Michelle Bachmann appears to have hit a glass ceiling in her appeal. Most of the Republican voters appear to have already taken a look at her more closely, but decided that she is OK but not enough – whatever that means. Michelle Bachmann now appears more a candidate for Vice President than President for 2012.
