The Women’s Annex Foundation (WAF) is now officially a 501(c)3 designated non-profit organization from the Internal Revenue Service. This tax-exempt status will help us further our mission of financially empowering women and children in Central Asia, as outside individuals and corporation now will receive tax incentives for contributing to Women's Annex Foundation. One of the main ways we want to accomplish this is by creating ways for women and children in Central Asia to connect to the Internet. Philanthropy is a delicate balance. People want to give but they want to see results with their gifts. At Women's Annex Foundation, we believe in the model of "#SustainableEducation", and we work everyday to improve our giving model.
In the last year, we’ve already been hard at work creating Internet classrooms through the Afghan Development Project, building stand-alone Media Labs and soon we will be distributing handheld devices to selected individuals in Central Asia. We get our funding from a variety of sources, including profits from FilmAnnex.com, WomensAnnex.com and via corporate and individual donors. Our current corporate friends include:
Now that we have our 501(c)3 status, we’re exempt from certain forms of income tax, allowing us to further our mission.
Our board members, Roya Mahboob, Fereshteh Forough, Francesco Rulli and Katie Sweeney, work to give women and children the opportunity to empower themselves, financially and otherwise.
The pay-for-content model at Women's Annex and Film Annex gives women in Afghanistan and Central Asia a chance to earn a living through writing, filmmaking, and distribution. This unique model not only helps these women financially, but also provides revenue to continue our important work in Central Asia. It’s part of our sustainable philanthropy philosophy - a philosophy that is now backed up by our official non-profit status.
